As most of you know, my 7-year old daughter, Jenny, had to have brain surgery last winter to remove a tumor that was growing there. What you may not know is that she was born with a disease called Tuberous Sclerosis that allows non-malignant tumors to grow in virtually any organ in her body at any time in her life. About 50,000 Americans and 1 million people worldwide have this disease. It is more common than Cystic Fibrosis or Lou Gehrig’s Disease yet few people seem to know about it. Since Jenny’s diagnosis as a toddler I have been involved in trying to increase government funding and raising money to help find a cure. I’ve even been to Washington 3 times to personally ask for help. We now have a Tuberous Sclerosis Clinic in Birmingham and had our first Tuberous Sclerosis Walk in Birmingham last March. We raised almost $70,000 for TS that day! We are having our 2nd Walk in Birmingham on Saturday, April 4th . I would love to have support from all my family and friends. Thanks for sharing John's letter and Jenny's story. The music that came up when I opened your blog was "When You Love Someone" and then came "God is in Control". I couldn't help but cry.

ReplyDeleteI did not know this about Jenny. She and Will are the same age. Our family will definitely commit to pray for her. I am so glad that John convinced the government that this cause needed funding. They are so willing to give our tax dollars to terrible things like abortion and saving some crazy spotted owls and yet so hesitant to help save lives of beautiful girls like Jenny.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of this and am in the medical field! I hope and pray they can find a cure for this disease. Jenny is a precious girl and we will remember her and her family in our prayers.

I really hope they find a cure very soon. When things like that happen, it is so hard to understand sometimes. Relying on the Lord will definitely get them through this very hard time!
